The self-healing injection port will close up as soon as the needle is removed, protecting the grain from contamination. Don’t pull the white filter off – it’s a HEPA filter for clean air exchange!

    If you are looking to put an agar wedge into a bag which is already sterile, you will really need to be careful. Thoroughly clean the bag first before cutting it open within a SAB.

    When re-sealing, if you have an impulse sealer then perfect but if you don’t then you’ll want to fold the end of the bag over before using anything from metal wire, rubber bands or zip ties - this makes a thorough seal.

    We may soon offer an option to have the bags unsealed for easy access. I envisage a bag within a bag system.

  4. Where would be the best place to store the bag post inoculation? Cupboard, Shelve etc ? Scared to put it inside a sealed plastic box incase the temperature rises too high...I only have rooms with other things in them and im worried about contams once its been lifted out the SAB after inoculation and sat wherever it needs to sit for 4 weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    A The filter should keep out contams, just make sure to never touch the filter and keep it dry. Temperature fluctuations aren’t a major concern if it’s only be a couple of degrees. If the room is going from cold to hot to cold then I can see issues - the more stable the temp is the better really. I would suggest a small room with an oil filled heater, this is what we use.. it’s more efficient and keeps the heating bills down.

    Depending on the size (1kg / 500g), genetics traits of your gourmet solution and factors such as temperature and the relative humidity in your home - it could take between 3-6 weeks. Breaking up the grain at 60-70% colonisation can help to speed up the process!
