They have been relied upon for thousands of years in Asia and have recently come to the attention of the rest of the world.
Reishi is the name given to the mushrooms in Japan and is the most widely known name, but in China, they are known as Lingzhi mushrooms and many people prefer to use this name.
In ancient times, those seeking immortality used Reishi mushrooms… Although they cannot actually promise to make you immortal, they are still highly praised for their effects on life longevity.
Modern studies have found the large polysaccharide and antioxidant content of these mushrooms boosts the health of the immune system, prevents abnormal blood vessel formation and neutralizes free radicals, which are linked to causing chronic diseases and premature aging.
Further studies focused on Reishi mushrooms have determined that their triterpenoids content has the ability to prevent tumor growth by reducing the spread of cancerous cells and some studies have even found that the active ingredients can find and neutralize cancerous cells within the body.
Cognitive disorders like Alzheimer’s are feared by many of us and although there is no proven cure, research has found that extracts of Reishi mushrooms stimulate nerve growth factor in the brain, which plays a major part in healthy cognitive function.
