The delicious Black Poplar mushrooms, popular in Chinese cooking, belong to the white rot fungi and get their name from their natural habitat being in the holes of Poplar trees.

Black Poplar are cultivated worldwide and are known to have a sweeter taste, compared to the normal earthy flavours produced from mushrooms, so are very popular in many cuisines. They are largely used in Chinese cooking, Traditional Chinese Medicine and are also a firm favourite in Italy, where they are called Pioppino mushrooms.

The mushrooms are a valuable source of immuno-modulatory peptides, beta-D-glucan and agrocybin, which all work to restore a healthy immune repsonse, with antibiotic compounds.
